How are CEO's responding to the complexity of increasingly interconnected organizations, markets, societies and governments?

IBM has been conducting an annual CEO Study series since 2004 and I find their key findings very much in line with my own beliefs with what is really important to drive growth in your organization today. In 2011, IBM conducted more than 1,700 in-depth, face-to-face interviews with CEO's, general managers and senior public sector leaders from around the globe.

This study explores how CEO's are responding to the complexity of increasingly interconnected organizations, markets, societies and governments – what we call the connected economy.

The most compelling finding is that technology is now driving more organizational change than any other force — even the economy.

During their watch, this group of CEO's has seen technology inspire entirely new industries and fundamentally disrupt others. CEO's also discussed the whirlwind of “social” change they’re witnessing. Smart, mobile devices are pervasive. And new technologies are emerging to help organisations store and make sense of the “big data” this digital storm is creating.

Technology is creating entirely new ways of connecting innovators inside and outside organizations, altering organizational composition, structure and span of control.

Three themes emerged:

Empowering employees through values

Engaging customers as individuals

Amplifying innovation with partnerships

Find out how CEOs are harnessing this unrealized potential. Read the study here.

I hope you find this Study insightful and helps your organization plan for the future.
